Accountability

Corrections policy

When we get something wrong, we correct it in public and show what changed. We never quietly edit a published article.

How to report an error

Email corrections@alpnews.com with the article URL, the passage you believe is wrong, and — if you have it — the evidence that establishes the correct position. You can also write to the editor using our contact page.

What happens next

  1. We acknowledge substantive reports within two working days.
  2. The editor who owns the article re-checks the claim against the original sources.
  3. If we were wrong, the article is corrected, a dated note is appended, and a new revision is recorded in the article history visible to the newsroom.
  4. If the claim stands, we tell you why, citing the evidence.

How we classify a fix

  • Correction — a factual error that changes the meaning of a passage (names, numbers, dates, quotations, attribution).
  • Clarification — the facts were accurate but the wording could reasonably be misunderstood.
  • Retraction — the story cannot be supported. The article is unpublished, replaced with a retraction notice, and the reason is explained.

What appears on the article

Corrected articles carry a visible corrections block at the end of the story, stating the date and what was changed. The top of the article shows an “Updated” timestamp. The underlying revision history — including the text as published — is retained and auditable by editors.

Serious failures

If an error involved fabricated material, plagiarism or a failure of verification, the editor-in-chief reviews the article, the process that allowed it, and whether further stories by the same contributor need review. Outcomes are recorded in our corrections log.

Corrections log

Corrections are published on the articles themselves. A consolidated log is available to editors and, on request, to readers.
